The Basilica "Sanctuary of the Virgin of San Juan de los Lagos" Cathedral dating from the eighteenth century, its pink stone facade is Baroque with two slender towers and scored three bodies, in which pairs of Tuscan columns and cornices moves are observed; as well as geometric and anthropomorphic reliefs.

 

Inside windows with stained glass, paintings can be seen in the spandrels of the dome; The main altarpiece is quarried, neoclassical style with cypress center, which houses the image of the Virgin of San Juan de los Lagos; in the sacristy there are oil paintings and carved wooden furniture and inlaid. The entire interior has rich golden decoration on the capitals, pilasters, cypress and other ornamental elements.

 

The First Miracle Chapel, dating from the seventeenth century; shows sober stone facade with tower of a body having Corinthian columns and reliefs decorating plant. The cover is of a body with a round arch; choral window is framed in stone, and above, there are niches with sculpture. Annex to the chapel facade is also sober, the former hospital, with cover embossed lintel and key. The interior of the chapel is a ship, flat roof and baroque altarpiece in white quarry, with twisted columns supporting entablature with semicircular pediment; The decoration is simple, with statues of saints on the walls.

 

Calvary Temple, dating from the seventeenth century, built in pink stone, looks like a Greek temple, for their stairways, arches and front columns, its front angle and the entablature, grandeur disproportionate sculptures of the twelve apostles.

 

Other religious buildings that stand out are: the Parish of San Juan Bautista built in stone around 1648; Temple of the Sagrada Familia built in 1841 in neoclassical style; and the Church of the Sangre de Cristo built instances of Fr. D. J. Romo Trinidad in the early nineteenth century.

 

As for architecture civil type include: "School Rita Perez" the house is neocolonial initiated in 1769 and completed in 1775, was gambling house, lodging house, barracks, and since 1949, school released mayor Esqueda Pablo Campos.

 

The Municipal Palace, sturdy construction quarry stone cover started in the late eighteenth century by Father José Manuel Flores, being household, workshop, farm house and city hall since 1938, when he was mayor Rafael Pérez de León.

 

The former Episcopal House rebuilt in the early nineteenth century, currently occupying the post offices, telegraph and Subordinate Federal Treasury.

Historical

 

Independence Monument, erected in 1872; is located in the Civic Plaza Rita Moreno Pérez, opposite the Basilica and consists of a slender column shaft decorated with garlands and compound capital, supported by base with four dragon figurines; column on a sculpture in marble female form stands, holding a laurel wreath. Surrounding the monument a circular fountain.

 

Monument to Benito Juarez, located at the intersection of Nicolás Bravo Benigno Romo and was built in 1972.

Bust dedicated to Professor Simon Hernandez, was unveiled in 1972 and is located in the Garden of Hospital.

Bust to honor Miguel Hidalgo is located in the city center and possibly was erected in 1950.

 

The City Hall has an important historical value, since this building was where he stayed Felix Maria Calleja, days before the battle against Hidalgo in the Puente de Calderon.
